IN DUO WITH CHUCK BETTIS
duo-share1duo-share

‘Once upon a mid-1990s time, there was a Washington, D.C. musician named Chuck Bettis who was involved in a string of projects that didn’t look or sound like D.C. bands. The Meta-matics, Trance and the Arcade, and the All Scars fit in with ’90s D.C.-post-hardcore about as well as a penguin in Fort Lauderdale, mixing noise bursts, improv, performance, and anything else with a mirthful brio. (Looking back, they were merely getting to the 2000s’ hybridization of everything in underground rock a little early.) Bettis relocated to New York in the early ’00s and continued charting an idiosyncratic path, colliding with like minds and ears en route. He has worked with Ikue Mori, Yellow Swans, Measles Mumps Rubella, Carlos Giffoni, John Zorn, Fred Frith and Afrirampo. His band Brown Wing Overdrive released « ESP Organism » on Tzadik in 2008. ‘
