Field Recordings – Interlocking Gong Music from Southeast Asia
These tracks have been all recorded between 2016 and 2017. Gong is a cultural symbol for Southeast Asia. Gong has unique cultural links between mainland and archipelago.
I’ve been interested in this gong music for long and how this gong, such as its instrumentations, materials, ensembles and the rituals, reflects to the everyday life for ethnic people and how this connects to other regions, people, and the lives. So, I decided to conduct extensive field works documenting these music culture.
Ces morceaux ont tous été enregistrés entre 2016 et 2017. Le Gong est un symbole culturel pour l’Asie du Sud-Est, et représente un vecteur culturel unique entre le continent et l’archipel. Je m’intéresse depuis longtemps à cette musique de gong et à la façon dont le gong, comme ses instruments, ses matériaux, ses ensembles et ses rituels, reflète la vie quotidienne des ethnies, et comment cela se connecte aux autres régions, aux gens, et aux modes de vie. J’ai donc décidé de mener de vastes travaux de terrain documentant ces cultures musicales.

Yasuhiro Morinaga is a sound designer, music director, independent filmmaker and director of ethnographic media production label, “concrete.” Y.Morinaga specializes in recording and documenting the music of different parts of the world and has published number of recordings on internet. By using the recording material and understanding its cultural contexts, Morinaga creates and produces installations, audiovisual works and the performances.
Yasuhiro Morinaga est un concepteur sonore, directeur musical, cinéaste indépendant et directeur du label de production ethnographique “concret”. Y.Morinaga est spécialisé dans l’enregistrement et la documentation de musiques ethnographiques et a publié nombre d’enregistrements sur internet. En utilisant son matériel d’enregistrement et en intégrant différents contextes culturels, Morinaga crée et produit des installations, des œuvres audiovisuelles et des performances.
