SETH ROZANOFF

Music for Electric Guitar and Computer, and other soundscapes

The order of this programme is as follows: No Disruptions (2015), Duo Loop (2020), Surfaces (2019), Singsongy (2015), Staticmass (2015), Preachersong (2012), Five (2015), …to Fennesz (2015), Eight (2015), and Qu-Extensions (2017). All of the works made in 2015 are from Music for Electric Guitar and Computer; myself performing on laptop, and Olivier Jambois on electric guitar. The other works are experimental works for loudspeakers, constructed around either environmental or digitally abstracted source materials.
All of the pieces for electric guitar, look to explore a range of musical dialogue between myself and Olivier. Sometimes we accompany one another, adjusting one’s lead role on the spot. Within that arrangement, one may hear a process of forming sonic juxtaposition. Overall, this work was built around my interest in Olivier’s ability to adapt to musical scenarios during performance. My electronics were performed using a software instrument which I designed, allowing me to develop quite a bit of noise-infused music with Olivier. Briefly, the other works are soundscapes, which manage to mix and match either small pre-recorded audio or larger environmental recordings, with other transformative and
sequenced digital processing techniques. Much of the work in this programme was produced in an electronic studio in Glasgow, Scotland. An interesting feature in Duo Loop, and Preachrsong, is both works are formed from environmental material captured in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
