ELEMENTS
Tokyo-based sound artist, curator and designer Cal Lyall had an early obsession in diverse musical forms that led to extensive travel and study throughout Southeast Asia and the Subcontinent. He continues to explore the possibilities of traditional forms in numerous projects which reflect a bevy of influences, ranging from free-flowing drone to ecstatic improvisation. He also performs as a collaborator with distinctive artists such as Tetuzi Akiyama, Tim Olive, Chihei Hatakeyama, Kelly Churko and Government Alpha, among others. With past tours through Thailand, Laos, Australia, China and Korea, he keeps an active performance schedule in Japan while also heading up the Subvalent record label, overseeing the Tokyo Hub of JOLT, and organizing the long-running Test Tone series at SuperDeluxe in Tokyo.
