Pour le vingtième anniversaire du label portugais Crónica, qui s’est imposé comme une “plateforme majeure pour tout ce qui concerne les productions à la limite du conceptuel” (Coda), ses deux initiateurs Miguel Carvalhais et Pedro Tudela ont produit un programme de 3 heures, revisitant chacun des 200 titres du catalogue.
Prenant chaque année de l’histoire de Crónica comme une unité, le mix se développe comme une archéologie du label, un regard rétrospectif et critique qui encadre chaque sortie dans son contexte chronologique tout en essayant de les comprendre dans le présent. C’est un regard sur le passé, avec un œil sur l’avenir pour soutenir l’édition, la production et la diffusion de musiques innovatrices.
Parmi les artistes présents dans cette anthologie, Philippe Petit, Stephen Vitiello, Arturas Bumšteinas, Janek Schaefer, Emmanuel Mieville sont également contributeurs de webSYNradio, soulignant les dynamique partagées à l’oeuvre dans un territoire musical ouvert et infiniment libre.

For the 20th anniversary of the Portuguese label Crónica, which has established itself as a major platform for everything to do with productions bordering on the conceptual, its two initiators Miguel Carvalhais and Pedro Tudela have produced a 3-hour program, revisiting each of the 200 titles in the catalog.
This mix was more than a walk down memory lane. Taking each year of Crónica’s history as a unit, the mix developed an archaeology of the label, a retrospective and critical look that framed every release in its chronological context while also trying to understand them in the present. This was a look at the past with sights set on the future of continuing to publish, help produce, and distribute new music.
Among the artists featured in this anthology, Philippe Petit, Stephen Vitiello, Arturas Bumšteinas, Janek Schaefer and Emmanuel Mieville are also webSYNradio contributors, highlighting the shared dynamics at work in an open and infinitely free musical territory.

ÉLÉMENTS

Crónica est un label basé à Porto, au Portugal. Conçu en 2003 comme un débouché pour les artistes locaux, le projet s’est développé pour devenir un label dédié aux musiques électroniques, computationnelles et expérimentales, aux arts sonores et à leur imbrication avec d’autres pratiques artistiques. La stratégie d’édition de Crónica englobe le domaine post-numérique et vise des normes de qualité élevées plutôt que des critères strictement commerciaux.

Crónica is a label based in Porto, Portugal. Crónica is an artist-run labour of love started in 2003 as an outlet for local artists, and that grew to become an imprint dedicated to electronic, computational, and experimental musics, to the sound arts and to their intertwining with other artistic practices. Crónica’s publishing strategy embraces the post-digital domain, setting its sights on high quality standards rather than on strictly commercial criteria.
