Orion a été créé pour le festival de Lviv / Ukraine en 2020 . Il s’agit ici de la version finale remixée.

” La pièce que je propose pour webSYNradio est une réflexion sur l’état actuel des tensions dans le monde. Les tensions, non pas au niveau des conflits armés ou des forts antagonismes politiques, mais celles en chacun de nous. Des tensions liées à l’incertitude de demain, à l’imprévisibilité des événements. Pour la première fois, nous sommes confrontés à une réalité qui déclenche en nous une sorte de paroxysme – pensées, sentiments, sensations, peurs. Le monde, qui n’est plus connu et sûr, devient soudainement différent, inconnu, brouillé. Nous recherchons du réconfort dans la nature, mais aussi dans l’art. D’un autre côté, nous espérons que l’innovation et la technologie nous sauveront d’une manière ou d’une autre. Nous nous tournons vers la connaissance, et pour résorber l’inconnu, nous nous permettons toutes sortes de magie.
Dans ce travail de composition, j’entrecroise toutes ces tensions qui nous accompagnent actuellement. Je tisse les sons de la nature autour de moi, les sons de mon enfant avec qui je passe maintenant tant de temps, mes promenades avec le chien, mais aussi les sons de la vie quotidienne auxquels je n’avais pas prêté attention auparavant – sirènes d’ambulance, enregistrements d’hôpital, rythme de la vie quotidienne, qui de l’accélération permanente est passé en mode suspension.

Cette pièce s’intitule Orion. C’est l’une des constellations les plus caractéristiques du ciel d’hiver, visible à la latitude de la Pologne d’octobre à fin février, lorsque la constellation disparaît à l’ouest. C’est précisément la période où la pandémie a été la plus intense.  La montée d’Orion intervient début décembre. Il est alors facile à trouver et à identifier, et en même temps, en le regardant, nous le voyons de manière sélective – nous voyons les sept étoiles qui composent le «corps» de ce chasseur, censé être le fils de Poséidon. En fait, la constellation d’Orion cache de nombreux secrets, par exemple, c’est un excellent point de référence pour la recherche des Pléiades.

Alors que je lève les yeux vers le ciel, je ne vois que ce que mon œil désarmé me permettra de voir, à me demander où nous sommes et où nous allons. Errant dans mon propre quartier et dans ma propre ville, je pose exactement les mêmes questions, les yeux et les oreilles armés de nouveaux outils – l’incertitude, l’anxiété mais aussi l’espoir de voir et d’entendre plus pour mieux comprendre et ressentir  davantage.”

“The piece I propose is a reflection on the current state of tensions in the world. The tensions, not on the level of armed conflicts or strong political antagonisms, but within each of us. Tensions linked to the uncertainty of tomorrow, to the unpredictability of events. For the first time we are faced with a reality that triggers a kind of sharpening in us – thoughts, feelings, sensations, fears. The world, which is no longer known and safe, suddenly becomes different, unknown, read anew. We seek solace in nature, but also in art. On the other hand, we hope that innovation and technology will somehow save us. We turn to knowledge. However, we allow ourselves a kind of magic, which always starts in the face of the unknown.

In my work I use my composition in which I weave all the tensions currently accompanying us. I weave the sounds of nature around me, the sounds of my child with whom I now spend so much time, my walks with the dog, but also the sounds of everyday life that I hadn’t paid attention to before – ambulance signals, hospital recordings, the rush and the pace of everyday life, which from the constant acceleration has moved into suspension mode.

My work is called Orion. It is one of the most characteristic constellations of the winter sky, in the latitude of Poland visible from October to the end of February, when the constellation disappears in the west. It is precisely in the period of the intensity of the pandemic. Mounting of Orion falls in early December. It is easy to find and identify, and at the same time looking at it we see it selectively – we see the seven stars that make up the “body” of this hunter, who was supposed to be the son of Poseidon. In fact, the constellation of Orion hides many secrets, for example, it is a great point of reference for searching the Pleiades.

As I lift my head up into the sky I only see what my unarmed eye will allow me to see and wonder “where we are and where we are going”. Wandering around my own neighborhood and around my own city, I ask exactly the same questions, with my eyes and ears armed with new tools – uncertainty, anxiety but also hope to see and hear more in order to better understand and feel more.”

Lukasz Szalankiewicz aka Zenial, est un artiste sonore, membre de la Société polonaise de musique électroacoustique et de la Société polonaise de musique contemporaine.
Dans son travail, il se concentre à la fois sur la sphère musicale et visuelle. Son activité artistique s’articule également autour d’installations interactives. Il a notamment été commissaire du programme audiovisuel In Progress au Laznia Center for Contemporary Art de Gdansk (2007-2015). Participant à de nombreux projets internationaux, co-créateur d’Audiotong – label & plateforme. En 2016-2017, il a également travaillé en tant que curateur à l’Institut de la culture polonaise à New York, avec un accent particulier sur les jeux informatiques et les médias interactifs . Créateur du module de culture numérique à la Faculté de graphisme de l’Académie des Beaux-Arts de Cracovie. Il traite de la thématique de l’audio dans les médias interactifs au Collegium Da Vinci de Poznan.
Parmi ses domaines d’activité annexe: Histoire des jeux vidéo, archéologie médiatique et démoscène.

Lukasz Szalankiewicz (Zenial) sound artist, member of the Polish Society for Electroacoustic Music and of the Polish Society of Contemporary Music.
In his work he focuses equally on the musical and visual sphere. His artistic activity also revolves around interactive installations. For many years he was a curator of the In Progress audio-visual program at the Laznia Center for Contemporary Art in Gdansk (2007-2015). Participant of many international projects, co-creator of Audiotong – label & platform. In 2016-2017 he also worked as a curator of special projects, with particular emphasis on the promotion of computer games and interactive media at the Institute of Polish Culture in New York. Creator of the digital culture module at the Faculty of Graphics at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow. He deals with the issue of audio in interactive media at the Collegium Da Vinci in Poznan at the Faculty of Computer Science and Visual Communication. Additional area of activity: History of computer games, media archeology and demoscene.
